As some of you may know, come September 12 at 7:31am I will have already completed my first half marathon. That is, I will have run 13.1 miles. [thirteenpointone] miles, at once, without stopping [I almost said at one sitting, hahaha oh isn't that ironic]. Currently I am in week 3 of training, which means my "long" runs are 5 miles long.
I want you to keep in mind that 5.5 miles is the farthest I have ever run in my life.
Before the last month. the farthest I had ever run was 4.0 miles.
I unabashedly consider this a marked accomplishment. I am running four days a week, eating more healthily, sleeping excellently, and generally feel pretty damn good about myself.
Then I think about the fact that I have to run THIRTEEN miles. Which is actually eight[pointone] more than I am currently running on my "long" runs. There are definitely times when I honestly don't know that I can do it.
We'll see how I do as training progresses, and when my long runs become more like 8,9,10 miles long [that's, like TWO HOURS of running!]
Meanwhile, I have a secret for you:
I secretly really enjoy running.
Meaning some days, I'm itching to go out for that run, and I feel a little bit cranky until I do. On those days I don't even recognize myself. I've even become someone who works out in the hotel gym! I mean, who DOES that?
I do. And while I probably won't do that when I'm not training to run thirteenpointone miles of death in a few short months, I'm going to enjoy it now.
